Gate valves are chosen for one job: isolating flow with minimal resistance when fully open. A flat or wedge disc lifts clear of the seat, so pressure loss is low and the bore stays unobstructed — useful on water mains, steam lines, oil and gas service and large-diameter pipework where a ball valve would be bulky or expensive. Because the disc travels slowly, gate valves are not intended for throttling; partial opening can erode the seat and cause vibration.

When comparing Chinese gate valve manufacturers, look at the wedge type (solid, flexible or split), the stem (rising or non-rising, which affects installation height), body and trim materials, the pressure class and end connections (flanged, butt-welded or socket-welded).
